Steps to Reverse PCOS Symptoms

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) affects 5-10 percent of pre-menopausal women, making it the most common female endocrine disorder. PCOS wreaks havoc on hormones: excessive amounts of insulin stimulate the ovaries to produce large amounts of testosterone. The result can be irregular periods and infertility, along with symptoms such as male-pattern baldness, fatigue, excess body hair, and obesity. The long term health risks for women with PCOS include diabetes and cardiovascular disease among others.

If glucose levels do not respond to normal levels of insulin, the pancreas produces more insulin. An over-production of insulin leads the body to respond by producing high levels of male hormones, or androgens. The elevated androgen levels can sometimes cause excessive facial hair growth, acne, and/or male-pattern hair thinning. There is unfortunately no single test for diagnosing PCOS.

Women experiencing hair loss lose ground fast in today's world. At work and in her personal life a woman's appearance has much to do with her financial and social success. Men may also prefer not to go bald. But since balding is known to be caused by high levels of testosterone, a bald man may be credited with extra virility. There is no such happy story for balding women.

Can you recall what a cyst free existence feels like? I felt myself drifting back in time, remembering the times when I was given the diagnosis...what my options were. Natural was NOT mentioned...at all! I surely would have loved to try something that promised to reverse and eliminate my ovary pain.

The thyroid gland is one of the seven endocrine glands, and it's located at the base of your throat (behind Adam's apple). Your thyroid gland is in charge of metabolism and energy production in the body. A bit like an electricity generator. In your early life and in utero it was involved in your brain development and organ differentiation. Later in your life it took control of your metabolism.

PCO (polycystic ovaries) literally means a condition associated with many (poly) cysts in the ovary or ovaries. There is a great deal of confusion surrounding this condition, and when I researched it I also found that even many practitioners themselves actually get confused with the terms polycystic ovaries and polycystic ovarian disease.

These drugs do not treat the core problem of PCOS which is insulin resistance however. Once you stop your hormones will go crazy again and you are back to square one. If you stay with the drugs you suffer side effects and often they do not help that much anyway!

The reason menopausal women are affected by loss of hair is heightened amounts of androgens, which are male hormones that cause the life of a hair follicle to cut itself short. There is a condition called Polycystic Ovary Syndrome that causes the body to overproduce male hormones and causes the female's eggs to turn into cysts that build up in the ovaries. PCOS is a hormonal disorder affecting 6 - 10% of women.

Liver or kidney disease or thrombophilia (a problem with the blood clotting mechanism) can cause infertility and problems carrying the fetus to full term. In addition, hypothalamic and pituitary gland problems may not produce enough luteinizing hormones (LH) or follicle stimulating hormones (FSH). These hormones are absolutely necessary to support ovulation and the menstrual cycle.
